Palestinian woman Safa Fayez, 29, pulls herself up the staircase of her
home in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. She was seriously wounded by shrapnel when
Israel Defence Forces shells hit a UN school crowded by hundreds of
Palestinians seeking shelter. The attack on 24 July 2014 killed 15
Palestinians and wounded many others, including Fayez’s baby and
husband. Fayez, who has four children, said she had just left the
classroom she was staying in with her family and was heading outside to
wait for a Red Cross bus when the attack occurred.
